Bio
With over 20 years in the field, Pen & Axe has cut its teeth on everything from award-winning documentaries and films to viral hits on social media.
The name of the company reflects our philosophy: the “Pen” for stories and creativity, the spark that begins it all; the “Axe” for craftsmanship, shaping raw ideas into something sharp, clear, and lasting.
Founded by Yasu Tsuji, a Director/Producer/Editor who has led teams of editors, producers, and story developers, Pen & Axe brings a collaborative approach that keeps crews inspired and projects on track.
Our work has been recognized by the Peabody Awards, News & Documentary Emmys, DuPont-Columbia Awards, Tribeca Film Festival, Webby Awards, and many more by pushing stories to resonate deeper.
Beyond production and post, we partner with clients on series development, pitch decks, pitch reels, and creative strategy, helping shape ideas from the first spark to final delivery.
Our collaborations span networks, studios, and brands alike: Hulu, Disney+, Freeform, ABC News, CBS News, National Geographic, Muck Media, VICE, MasterClass, YouTube, Legendary Entertainment, Current TV, OWN, Intel, RayBan, Electronic Arts, and others.
At Pen & Axe, we believe every story deserves both the pen to dream it and the axe to build it.
